Essential 1986 Album on 180g Audiophile Red Vinyl!
Numbered, Limited Edition of 750 Copies!
Battle of Armagideon is one of the essential albums by Jamaican reggae artist Lee 'Scratch' Perry. His backing group by that time were The Upsetters. This album will get you to the heart of Perry's unique work as a mixer and producer. He explores the music by adding a lot of sound effects to the different tracks. "I Am a Madman" is the best-known album track, where Perry goes to the max. It's pure craziness at its best.
Lee 'Scratch' Perry was a pioneer in the 1970s development of dub music and worked together with artists such as Bob Marley and the Wailers, The Clash and The Beastie Boys. Sadly, he passed away on August 29, 2021 and will be sorely missed.
Battle of Armagideon is available as a limited edition of 750 individually numbered copies on red colored vinyl.
'Open your eyes and see/Open your ears and listen,' Perry advises on this excellent record, and you would be foolish to ignore this advice. Battle, in many ways, gets to the heart of Perry's technique as a mixer and producer. The bass throbs so much on this record that you would swear it's leaking out of the grooves, and Perry's added sound filigrees (echo, sheets of noise, explosive volume) don't disrupt the music as much as add to the very psychedelic ambience. The disc's most celebrated track is 'I'm a Madman,' wherein Perry acknowledges his lunatic persona. Also wonderful is the opening track, 'Introducing Myself,' which functions as a surreal, partly fictional autobiography. Close to spectacular, this is a great single slice of Perry mania.
